Backup Batteries Backup batteries allow the system to function when power fails, or is purposely cut to disable the alarm. Most are either 6V or 12V. Simply make sure the battery meets the systems requirements both electrically and physically. There are 3 specs to be concerned with, Voltage (v), Power (Ah), and dimensions. You should also make sure that the connectors match! Voltage must match, typically 6 or 12. Ah (AmpHours) may be increased but that typically means a larger battery and that's where the dimensions come in. Most systems will recommend a part number to use. Backup batteries have a limited useful lifespan where they will fail to maintain a charge after some period of time. Usually this degrades slowly over time and the battery should be replaced at a recommended interval (from batt mfg.) Many systems also have a built in battery test feature that is either manual of automated. In either case you should test your battery on occasion. Replacement batteries can usually be found online or at many electronics outlets.
